About this product:
Hessian (burlap) is the base material used in traditional British rag rugging. Choosing the correct weave of hessian is incredibly important as looser weaves do not hold the rags in securely whilst tight hessian can be painful and difficult to rag rug with.
This hessian is a medium weave (10 holes per inch / 10HPI), which is perfect for both beginner and expert rag ruggers to use with a latch hook or spring tool. It is the same hessian used to make all our Ragged Life projects so you can rest assured that you're buying what the experts use.
This set consists of five small pieces of hessian with hemmed circles to create five small rag rug flowers. This set is suitable for anyone who already has the basic rag rug tools (e.g. Rag Rug Spring Tool or Latch Hook) and is familiar with how to do the basic rag rug techniques, but would like to make rag rug brooches or napkin rings.
Watch it in action:
You can see examples of how this hemmed hessian can be used by reading our Rag Rug Poppy Tutorial here.
Please Note:
This set does not include fabric. We believe that one of the joys of rag rugging is in using up old clothing and offcuts that you have lying around (it's great for making you reevaluate your wardrobe). You can use any fabric to rag rug with (jersey, cotton, lycra, velvet, fleece etc...) but we recommend that beginners start with thinner fabrics such t-shirt material and cotton.
This set is not to make a 3D bouquet of rag rug flowers. That rag rug kit can be found here.
