Introductory Rag Rug Kit
Our classic "Introductory Rag Rug Kit" is perfect for rag rug beginners to dip their toe into the rag rugging for the first time. It includes all the tools and instructions to do all three traditional British rag rug techniques – shaggy (proggy), short shaggy (our invented technique) and loopy (hooky).
The latch hook tool that comes in the kit is a little slower to work with than some of the super duper tools in the kits below, so if you’re thinking of making a couple of rag rug projects then you’re best off investing in one of the more specialised kits below…
NB: None of our rag rug kits include the fabric. Sourcing that is part of the fun! Fabric-wise, anything can be used... t-shirts, fabric offcuts, cotton, fleece, silk... you name it, we've used it!
Loopy Rag Rug Kit
The Ragged Life "Loopy Rag Rug Kit" is perfect for any rug making beginner who specifically likes the look and feel of the loopy (hooked) technique of rag rug making, which is generally considered to be the neatest and most practical technique.
With loopy rag rugging, you can build plenty of detail into your pieces with small, compact loops, which means it’s particularly great for pictorial and design-led rag rug projects, like wall hangings, cushions, Christmas stockings and more…
Best of all, our “Loopy Rag Rug Kit” includes the wonderful Ragged Life Rug Hook – the very best tool for making long-lasting loopy projects quickly and easily. You won’t find an easier tool to work with. You can see it in action here.
Shaggy Rag Rug Kit
The clue is probably in the name, but our "Shaggy Rag Rug Kit" is ideal for anyone who wants to make traditional “shaggy style” (proggy) rag rugs. These rugs are super soft, with a gorgeous, thick pile that you just want to sink your feet into. Oooh, I know you can feel it already!
You don’t have to stop at just rugs either. With the quality hand tools included in the “Shaggy Rag Rug Kit”, you can make festive wreaths (it mimics foliage well), luscious rag rug bouquets, cushions and more… Best of all, you can use the tools for years to come, so there’s no limit to the number of projects you can make.
Kind of convinced? You can see the Ragged Life Spring Tool (which comes in the kit) in action here

Easy Peasy Rag Rug Cushion Kit
Rag rug cushions make a great first project for any rag rug beginner. They're small enough that they don't seem too daunting for someone who has never done the craft before, but are large enough that after finishing one, you can feel confident embarking on a number of different projects.
This kit is “Easy Peasy”, so includes all the very best tools to do all three British rag rug techniques (Spring Tool, Gauge & Rug Hook). All you need to source is a pair of good scissors and the fabric (which is the fun part).
You will need basic sewing skills to assemble the cushion at the end of the project, but clear, step by step instructions are included.
We recommend adding an extra hemmed cushion hessian to your order when checking out as you'll almost certainly catch the rag rug bug and want to make a second cushion to match your first.
Shaggy Rag Rug Wreath Kit
Rag rug wreaths were one of the first Ragged Life projects we created and there’s a reason that they’ve stayed on the menu. They are quick and fun to make and look wonderful hung on a front door at Christmas or nestled on a mantlepiece in spring. You certainly know that none of your neighbours could possibly have the same one!
Our “Rag Rug Wreath Kit” includes the steps to make a traditional red and green Christmas wreath, but this isn’t prescriptive. You can use whatever colour scheme or pattern you choose. Technique-wise, we prefer the traditional shaggy or short shaggy styles of rag rugging for this project, which is why our “Rag Rug Wreath Kit” includes the best shaggy-specific tools (Spring Tool & Cutting Gauge). The longer fabric pieces can mimic foliage and petals, which means you can make festive poinsettia designs, spring daisies, blousy peonies, cactus dahlias... the sky’s the limit really!

Whether you’re making the bouquet for yourself or a loved one, they make a lovely handmade wedding bouquet, Mother’s Day present or thoughtful gift. Who doesn’t love flowers?
Rag rug bouquets are best made in the shaggy technique to create convincing petals, so the tools we've included in the kit reflect that. It comes with the super duper Rag Rug Spring Tool, wooden cutting gauge, and even includes the wooden stems to attach your flowers to.
What’s more, in the kit we explain how you can shape the fabric pieces to create different petals, which is a learning you can apply to all sorts of future rag rug projects… wreaths, basket trims and more…
