Although this kit includes eight balls of blanket yarn, which is enough to make a 130 x 90cm fully woollen rug, you could also use the same yarns to make multiple smaller projects instead - think cushions, seat pads, scarves and much more. On the 90cm peg loom included in this kit, you can weave anything up to 90cm in width and any length you like!
As colours and design preferences are personal, when you add this set to your basket, you can choose which blanket yarns to receive, which allows you to tailor your design to your interior. Read on below for more details of what items are included:
What's in the kit?
8 x 250g Balls of Woollen Blanket Yarn:
These fabrics create the pattern of your first project and you can personally select which balls of blanket selvedges you receive. Simply add the "Fully Wool XL Peg Loom Rug Kit" to your basket then browse the "blanket yarns" section of the Ragged Life shop to select eight full sized balls of woollen blanket selvedges to also add to the basket. At checkout, the cost of these eight balls will be subtracted off the total, saving you money on your first project. If you'd like for us to choose yarns for you then do not add any blanket yarns to the basket and we will select ones to post out to you.
Psst: If you're looking for blanket yarns with more texture, then browse the "Weaving Yarn" product listing. There are some real beauties in there!
The loom:
This set includes one of our Ragged Life 90 x 10cm hardwood peg looms. Unlike more basic peg looms, our loom is drilled with three rows of holes to allow you to work with all different thicknesses of fabric, as well as yarn. Specifically...
- Row 1 has 35 holes, spaced approx 2.5cm apart to work with medium weight to thick fabrics, such as woollen jumpers, denim, blanket yarn, fleece etc...
- Row 2 has 47 holes, spaced approx 1.9cm apart to work with light to medium-weight fabrics, such as jersey, cotton etc... It also can be used with raw fleece.
- Row 3 has 69 holes, spaced approx 1.25cm apart to work with wool (e.g. knitting yarn).
The pegs:
When you buy one of our Ragged Life peg loom sets, you will receive two sets of wooden pegs - 71 thin wooden pegs and 48 thicker wooden pegs. The thin pegs fit in row 3 only, however the thicker pegs can be used in either row 1 or 2. We include two spare thin pegs and 1 spare thick peg with our peg loom sets for extra peace of mind.
Threader:
To "warp" up your peg loom, you will need to pass string through the small hole at the bottom of each peg you will be using. We include a wire threader with every peg loom set purchase which makes this process much easier.
Peg Loom Weaving Instructions:
We include a "Peg Loom Weaving Techniques Booklet" with every purchase to ensure you have the basics on how to get started, but if you'd like more detail, we recommend watching some of our instructional videos on our Ragged Life YouTube channel here or buying a copy of "Rag Rug Techniques for Beginners", which has four beginner peg loom projects to sink your teeth into.
Peg & Threader Bag:
Also included in this kit is a cute drawstring bag to store your pegs, threader and instructions. It's even large enough for some extra fabric strips! Not necessary to the technique, but just nice to have.
1000+ Metres of Warp:
Warp is the foundation of your weaving! It's the string that forms the vertical framework that holds your peg loom weaving together. This kit includes a reel of over 1000 metres of quality cream warp, which will keep you busy for many projects to come. See how to set up a peg loom by watching our step-by-step tutorial on YouTube here.
Latch Hook:
This is our preferred tool for sewing in your tails at the end of a project. Ours has a quality wooden handle.
What else you will need:
This kit is designed to include everything you need for your first peg loom woven project. However, you will need a pair of scissors for trimming fabric tails etc... The blanket yarn included in this kit comes pre-cut into strips, so you won't need to be doing much cutting fortunately.
